Purpose: This website provides interactive visualizations of historical GSOD (Global Surface Summary of Day) weather data for educational and research purposes.
Data Coverage: Daily weather observations from 28,000+ stations worldwide, dating back to 1929. Best data coverage begins in 1973.
Variables: Temperature (mean/max/min), dewpoint, wind speed, precipitation, snow depth, visibility, sea level pressure, and weather flags (fog, rain, snow, hail, thunder, tornado).
Limitations:
- Data has approximately 5-6 month lag from present
- Station coverage varies by region and time period
- Some stations have incomplete records
- Data quality varies; values may contain errors
